If you were waiting for the new SketchUp 2019 you had to wait a big longer. But the designers brought to us so many changes that it was worth waiting.
The biggest of all news is the change in the system of purchaising SketchUp. Now there are no more only perpetual licences we were used to and you can choose from more possibilities.
If you like more the system of subscriptions, now it is possible to subcribe also to SketchUp. This version slightly varies from the permanent one and offers some extra bonuses as SketchUp PRO WEB, SketchUp mobile viewer including AR functions, SketchUp Viewer for XR, Trimble Connect for Business and PRO content on learn.sketchup.com.
But the thing you are probably more interested in is the new functionality of the SketchUp.
If you use LayOut, the good news is that many of the changes are related to it.
The dashed lines are one of the things customers have missed in the SketchUp. Dashed lines in SketchUp and LayOut allow you to simplify your drawings with effective drawing communication.
LayOut is now also smarter. It will let you know which files are already open so that you will not create multiple versions.
.dwg import and export features have made boatload of improvements. Ability to import and export with materials offers better BIM interoperability and workflows.
With Export for SketchUp feature any filled shape created in LayOut will be passed over to SketchUp as face ready to be Push/Pulled. This make SketchUp and LayOut cooperate better than before.
One more little thing to help your workflow – the Tape Measure now allows you to measure just where you are modeling. It helps you to model more accurately and efficiently.
Trimble Connect
Trimble Connect is now your BIM BFF. It gives you possibility for cloud collaboration as well as for efficient workflows. The new management tool for sharing 3D modeling and document is specifically focused on projects related to building design and construction. For subcribers offers Trimble Connect also unlimited storage space.
You can use Trimble Connect to back-up, control versions and share your SketchUp files.
SketchUp for Web
All SketchUp users can now find „live preview“ for image exports. You can change the orientation and composition of your model as you like, than take a snapshot at your desired image size/aspect ratio. You can use this image export with scenes to dial-in a composition that helps you convey important info in your models.
SketchUp Viewer for AR/VR
SketchUp Viewer is now available on more Virtual Reality headsets than ever before – Oculus, Windows Mixed Reality, VIVE and Hololens. With SketchUp subscription you have access to every one of them.
SketchUp Campus
SketchUp introduces – the whole new official learning hub. Here you can find SketchUp-built courses in 104 languages.
3D Warehouse
Millions of models in 17 languages – it needed to add system to 3D Warehouse. Now you can find separate categories for models. This increases the speed of browsing and let you spend less time searching and more time creating.
